Pranayama Breathing Techniques

The 4-7-8 mindfulness exercise is based on pranayama breathing techniques, and is a great tool for grounding and calming yourself in times of stress no matter where you are or what you’re doing! Here’s how to practice it:

1. Breath quietly in through your nose for a count of 4
2. Hold your breath for a count of 7
3. Breath forcefully out of your mouth for a count of 8 while making a “whooshing” sound
4. Repeat several times
